Young horses are worked for a brief period for the first time in winter at the age of two and a half. Actual schooling begins at the age of three for geldings. Stallions are prepared for the stallion performance test and then presented for licensing. The schooling of mares begins after the birth of their first foal at the age of four.

The fire test of what they have learned takes place at shows and the best youngsters from Hof Thormählen prove their talent in tests for young show jumpers.
